Prince Harry Red-Faced After Antigua Leader Insists He Should Return for Honeymoon with His 'New Princess'
He’s not even engaged yet, but Prince Harry was left feeling a tad awkward when the Prime Minister of Antigua encouraged him to have his honeymoon on the Caribbean island.
Harry, who has been dating actress Meghan Markle for several months, was invited to come to the island again by Prime Minister Gaston Browne.
“I am told that there may be a new princess and I just want to say that should you make the decision to honeymoon – then Antigua and Barbuda want to welcome you,” the leader told Harry at an event Monday night.
The prince, who has been having a blast during the opening days of the two week tour of the region, didn’t reply, winced a little and fiddled with his shirt to avoid eye contact.
The PM was talking to 300 guests at Barnacle Point in Antigua, and Harry presented his host with an album of pictures on behalf of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth.
Harry has visited to the area as a boy and more recently in 2012. Browne told him, “We know that you are no stranger to the shores of Antigua and Barbuda because your late mother spent time here.
“And yourself, as a youngster, spent some time on our beautiful shores in Barbuda.
“Your grandmother has spent time here. Your late-great aunt would have spent sometime here – and at least two weeks of her honeymoon, she spent here in Antigua,” the Daily Express reports.
“And I understand that there may be a new addition to the Royal Family very soon?
“I am told that there may be a new princess and I just want to say that should you make the decision to honeymoon – then Antigua and Barbuda want to welcome you.
“We have been voted consistently as the best honeymoon destination in the Caribbean – and one of the best in the world – so there will be nowhere in the world as special to spend your honeymoon, when that day arrives.”
The normally-playful prince was also faced with another proposition. He shook his head to turn down the offer of a dance with a soca singer who asked him join her in a jig on stage. Harry made his excuses and gestured towards PM Browne to join in – which he gamely did.
On hand as the band played were two of the island’s beauty queens, who were dressed in sequinned gowns and flamboyant feathers, for the party.
