Kate Middleton's Soccer Skills Are 'Rubbish' – According to 5-Year-Old Son Prince George!
Kate and William showed off their soccer skills at the start of their two-day tour of Northern Ireland
Kate and Prince William showed off their soccer skills (or “football,” as the Brits say) on Wednesday at the start of their two-day tour of Northern Ireland. The couple headed to Windsor Park Stadium in Belfast to learn about the Irish Football Association’s community soccer projects and how the sport can play a role in bringing communities together – and they even hit the field for some drills.
Despite keeping up with a group of young girls, Kate revealed to schoolchildren that her 5-year-old son is learning how to play soccer and is not impressed with her skills on the field.
She revealed that George tells her, “Mummy, you’re so rubbish,” according to The Telegraph.
“I should have picked up some tips from George,” Kate, 37, quipped.
Prince William also had some fun at the expense of his wife, telling the young athletes to “look out, she goes for the ankles!” during their match.

William, 36, shared during a 2017 meeting with the England’s women’s soccer team that he was having some trouble teaching his firstborn a few essential skills of the sport.
“He said at the moment he’s trying to teach George that football is actually a contact sport,” player Casey Stoney said. “But George doesn’t really like it when he’s palming him off and getting physical.”
While speaking with tennis star Novak Djokovic following the athlete’s Wimbledon win this past summer, William admitted that he’s trying to get his kids into some of his favorite sports.
“How are your children?” Djokovic, himself a dad of two, asked the royal couple in a video shared by the famed tennis tournament.
“Very well, thanks, very well,” the dad of three responds. “Trying to get a tennis racket in their hand – and a football!”
After arriving to Windsor Park Stadium in a bright red coat dress by Carolina Herrera – a recycled piece that she previously wore on her 2016 tour of Canada! – along with black tights and lace-up booties by L.K. Bennett, the royal mom made a quick outfit change before heading out onto the field with young athletes.
Kate wore athletic pants, a blue lightweight jacket over a white sweater with blue and red stripes and New Balance sneakers – and tied her hair back into a ponytail – to take part in a soccer practice with young girls.
The Irish Football Association’s “Shooting Stars” program encourages girls to play soccer, while “Ahead of the Game” works to support clubs and volunteers when dealing with mental health issues, a cause close to Kate and Prince William‘s hearts.
