It's a Smorgasbord! Inside the Palace Chefs' Swedish Royal Wedding Feast

Prince Carl Philip and his bride-to-be Sofia Hellqvist's wedding meal will be prepared by the best chefs in Sweden

No, the Muppets’ Swedish Chef won’t be the one preparing Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist‘s wedding smorgasbord.

But the couple’s first meal as husband and wife will be nothing but Sweden’s best.

Five famed Swedish chefs – including one with three Michelin stars – have been named the official caterers for Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist’s big day on June 13. On Monday the star-crossed pair made yet another glamorous appearance, this time at a royal gala for the President of India.

In the kitchen, Swedish chef Fredrik Eriksson, owner of the Michelin-starred Matsalen, is responsible for coordinating the culinary teams and overseeing the entire meal. It shouldn’t be too much of a daunting task for Eriksson, a veteran of another high-profile Swedish event: the Nobel banquet.

He’s also a personal acquaintance of Prince Carl Philip – the two served on the judging panel of the Chef of the Year competition in February.

Joining him is Mathias Dahlgren, another award-winning Swedish chef. He’s also the only Scandinavian chef with three Michelin stars to his name. (They’re both for his restaurants in Stockholm).

Taking on the final (and some may say, most important) course of the evening, dessert, is Mattias Ljungberg, captain of Swedish national pastry chef team. (Yes, it exists.)

Ljungberg will team with chefs Frida Lejon and Fredrik Borgskog in preparing the show-stopping wedding cake. (You can see them showing off some of their creations – in Swedish – in this video.) Award-winning Stockholm restaurant owners Markus Aujalay and Henrik Norström round out the royal food team.

The cuisine at Prince Carl Philip’s wedding was bound to be delectable: The royal is quite the foodie and has been involved in Swedish and international cooking contests, including Swedish Chef of the Year.

The dinner will begin after the ceremony at the royal chapel in Stockholm, followed by a horse-and-carriage procession throughout Stockholm, ending in Log rden, a garden on the royal palace’s grounds. After the couple and their guests dine, they’ll spend the night celebrating in Karl XI’s Gallery in the royal palace – the same opulent chamber where Monday’s royal gala was held.

The playlist for the party should be a good one: Swedish DJ Avicii revealed that he had been asked by Carl Philip to provide the music.

“He is so damn cool and a really good guy, actually humble,” Avicii (real name: Tim Bergling) told Musicstation NRJ, adding that they met in Ibiza last year. “It will be really fun. It’s an honor, of course.”
