With a curtsy to Queen Elizabeth, Sarah, Duchess of York, signaled her very public renewal within the royal court as she joined ex-husband Prince Andrew at Royal Ascot on Friday.

She joined Andrew and their daughter Princess Beatrice on the fourth day of the horse-racing festival so beloved by the Queen. When the Queen’s carriage passed, Beatrice and her mother made their respectful symbolic bend of the knee. (Though they didn’t go nearly as low as Beatrice’s cousin, Zara Tindall!)

It is the second year running that Ferguson (a.k.a. “Fergie”), 56, has attended Ascot – and comes two decades after she was cast out of the royal fold with her 1996 divorce from Andrew, 56. They were married for 10 years, during which they had daughters Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

But the couple remain close friends – even buying a home together in the form of a multi-million dollar luxury chalet in the skiing resort of Verbier, Switzerland.
