The active royal sibling competed in a brutal cross-country ski race in Norway over the weekend, taking on some serious royal competitors in the process. Pippa, the competitive younger sister of Princess Kate, strapped on her skis and took to the slopes against Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon and Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik, but in the end, it was Prince Haakon who crossed the finish line ahead of his royal competitors. The Norwegian finished the 33.5-mile trek in just over 4 hours, while his Danish rival completed the mountainous course in just over 5 hours. Pippa clocked in at 5 hours and 58 minutes. “It’s impressive that Crown Prince Frederik entered the race, he is actually fitter than me,” Crown Prince Haakon said. “But this course and these conditions suit me better,” he added, acknowledging his home-field advantage for the grulling competition (contestants must carry a backpack weighing more than 7 lbs.), which runs from rural Rena to Eastern Norway Olympic center of Lillehammer. • Want to keep up with the latest royals coverage? Crown Prince Haakon, who earlier this month completed his training as a certified military paratrooper, expressed regret that he was more than 33 minutes slower than the time he clocked in 2015. “It was much heavier this year than last year. It was fun, but really heavy going,” the prince told Norway’s state broadcaster NRK. The Birkebeinerrennet Cross Country Skiing race was just the latest in a serious of extreme sporting events Pippa has participated in over the past year. In January, the experienced skier didn’t just finish the world’s longest downhill ski race in Switzerland – she did so in respectable time. Having become known for her love of extreme sporting challenges, she also completed the Otillo swim-run in Sweden in September with both her brother James Middleton and her now-boyfriend James Matthews, in support of a charity named for Matthews’ brother.
