Mia Tindall, 2-year-old great-granddaughter to Queen Elizabeth II, may have stolen the spotlight in one of the monarch’s 90th birthday portraits, with her handbag-holding ways. But Mia’s dad says the adorable moment arose from a bit of “naughty” behavior.

“It just happened at the right time,” Mike Tindall told Good Morning Britain. “She was being a bit naughty.

“The Queen got it quite right when she told her, ‘Just hold the handbag now,’ and she did that. It ended up being a great photo of her.”

A palace source previously told PEOPLE the moment was “completely spontaneous.”

Mia “just did it. She just picked it up” – and in the process, had her first (but likely not last) viral social media moment.

Mike is married to Zara Tindall, Princess Anne’s daughter and the Queen’s granddaughter. The pair married in 2011 and welcomed daughter Mia in 2014.
