Meghan Markle’s Former Stylist on Why She'll Be the Best (and Most Stylish) Mom: 'She Loves to Love'
Talia Brown Thall, Meghan’s former stylist in Canada, explains why the "chic" royal will be the perfect mom
“She really loves to love and that’s why I think she will be the best mom,” Talia Brown Thall, Meghan’s former stylist, tells PEOPLE, adding: “She’s kind and she thinks about the world around her, she’s going to be so great!”
Brown Thall met Meghan in 2005 on a shoot for Flare magazine (for which Meghan made her grandmother’s apple butter toast for a cooking feature). Based in Toronto, the fashion stylist bonded with Meghan, who was at the time working on Suits, over their love of yoga. “We would go to hot yoga and she would just get lost in the room, she has a really good soul.”
It was through Brown Thall that Meghan was introduced to luxury Canadian brands such as Sentaler, who designed Meghan’s go-to wrap coat. Working together for over a year, the fashion stylist (who has styled Idris Elba, among others) says Meghan’s look hasn’t changed one bit.
“Her style was always classic and clean. She loved jeans with white collared shirts and little pointy shoes. And sneakers, I think I’ve seen her in a thousand pairs!” she says. ”
And she always knew how to work her best feature, says her fashion pal.
“Meghan knew she had great legs — she wore skirts that hit at just that perfect spot on her legs, she knew that spot!”
When they weren’t working together on styling projects or enjoying yoga, the pair would go on lunch dates and hang out with Meghan’s dogs Guy and Bogart.
“We would go back to her house, just sit on the couch, drinking wine, eating berries and hanging out with her dogs,” says Brown Thall, adding: “Her dogs were her pre-baby babies, they were both rescue dogs and she was so patient with them.”
Now, in the final few weeks of her pregnancy, Meghan has seemingly avoided maternity wear, instead opting for bespoke (from her go-to brands such as Givenchy), oversized or vintage pieces. Her recent love of vintage trapeze coats from the 1960’s era drew “Jackie O” comparisons. Was the former first lady a style inspiration to Meghan?
“She has a thing for old Hollywood glamour and a love for history — and she loves well-designed garments, she really has a great eye,” says the stylist, who adds: “I think she is doing such a great job, she looks chic and effortless in everything, even with an ever-changing body and she is still wearing those heels – nothing slows her down!”
Discovering that Meghan was engaged to Prince Harry through the media (the pair lost touch once Meghan and Harry started dating), Brown Thall says she was thrilled but not that surprised.
“It sounds weird but I always knew Meghan was ready for big things, I didn’t know what they were but her energy and her desires were always grand – she was always working away, she never stopped!”
