Meghan Markle is getting back to her California roots — and it's showing in her summer style.

The Duchess of Sussex, who moved to a new home in Santa Barbara with Prince Harry and their 1-year-old son Archie last month, recently sat down with feminist icon Gloria Steinem to discuss representation in voting. Her style was the epitome of chic for the "backyard chat," taking inspiration from her recent return to California.

After months of virtual appearances that gave fans just a small glimpse of her ensembles, the video shows Meghan in a pair of striped Anine Bing trousers, currently on sale for $125, paired with a simple white top and black sandals by Stella McCartney.

She topped her outfit off with a $356 straw hat featuring a black ribbon detail by Janessa Leone. The accessories brand announced on Instagram that "in honor of this important conversation" they would donate 10% of proceeds made through online orders through Sunday to I Am a Voter, a "nonpartisan movement dedicated to creating a cultural shift around voting and civic engagement."

Meghan, 39, always incorporated laidback elements of California into her style choices, from airy button-downs to her laid-back denim.

Even before her return to her home country, a friend told PEOPLE that Meghan's "California roots are coming through" while pregnant with 1-year-old son Archie.

"She’s being mindful of what she puts in her body and on her skin and even her at-home cleaning supplies," the friend added. "She’s hyperaware of what she’s using. She’s looking for natural things."

Steinem kicked off their conversation in a teaser clip by welcoming Meghan back to the U.S.

"Meg, welcome home," the author and activist said to the Duchess of Sussex. "I'm so glad that you're home."

"Thank you," Meghan responded. "Me too, for some many reasons."
