Learn More About the Doctors Overseeing Princess Kate's Second Pregnancy

Dr. Guy Thorpe-Beeston and Dr. Alan Farthing tended to Kate Monday while she battles severe morning sickness

When the Duchess of Cambridge has her second baby next spring, she will have two familiar faces by her side – doctors Guy Thorpe-Beeston and Alan Farthing.

The two gynecologists, who were present for Prince George‘s birth at St. Mary’s Hospital, were also the doctors chosen to stay by Kate’s side Monday while William fulfilled his royal duties in Oxford before heading home to help.

The palace has confirmed Kate is once again suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum, a condition that brings on severe sickness and nausea during pregnancy, and for which Kate was hospitalized during her last pregnancy.

It’s believed Kate and William once again plan to have their child at the renowned Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in London’s Paddington, where George’s much-anticipated arrival was dubbed the “Great Kate Wait.”

Sir Marcus Setchell, who led the elite medical A-team for Prince George’s birth, has since been awarded a knighthood for his services to the royal family and has retired, as has Sir Professor John Cunningham, physician to the Queen, who was also present for George’s arrival.

Thorpe-Beeston graduated from Cambridge University in 1984 and is a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist who specializes in high-risk pregnancies. He was one of the few people actually in the delivery room when Prince George was born.

Farthing is a consultant gynecological surgeon and oncologist at various leading London hospitals. He was appointed to assist Marcus Setchell in 2008 and has recently been appointed as Surgeon Gynecologist to the Queen, while Thorpe-Beeston’s official title is Surgeon Gynecologist to the Household.

It is not known whether Dr. Sunit Godambe, a consultant neonatologist at St. Mary’s Hospital, who was also present at Prince George’s birth, will join the two doctors.

The palace has yet to confirm whether Kate will be well enough to honor the rest of her engagements this month, which include attending the Invictus Games this week and a two-day solo tour to Malta later this month.
