Katharine McPhee just won this Throwback Thursday.

The American Idol alum shared her royal connection on social media, digging up an old photo with Meghan Markle. The young actresses smile in stage makeup – including bright red lipstick! – as they pose for the shot during their theater days together.

The timely reason for the epic callback? McPhee is currently in London starring in the West End production of Waitress, a role she previously played on Broadway.

“Both did musicals together as a kid. one is now the duchess and the other is starring on the west end. basically the same life if you ask me,” the singer and actress captioned the post, adding the hashtag #tbt.

The Duchess of Sussex, 37, returned to her acting roots on Wednesday, making her first public outing at the National Theatre in London – three weeks after it was announced she had adopted it as one of her initial four royal patronages.

While Meghan is best known for her TV work, especially her role on the hit legal series Suits, she did her training in theater and is a double major in theater and international relations from Northwestern University.

The royal mom-to-be “is a strong believer in using the arts to bring people from different backgrounds and communities together, and this first official visit to The National Theatre will explore the work they do, as well as meeting some of the talented teams and apprentices working behind the scenes,” her office said in a statement.

McPhee isn’t the only star who connected with Meghan in her pre-royalty days.

During an interview with Access, Mandy Moore was surprised with a 2006 group shot featuring Meghan. Moore explained that Meghan’s ex-husband, Trevor Engelson, was a producer on the 2007 rom-com License to Wed, in which Moore starred alongside Robin Williams and John Krasinski.

“Her ex-husband was a producer on a movie that I worked on, so I met her back in 2006 and spent a lot of time with them, a lot of time with her, and she is a lovely, generous woman,” said the This Is Us star.

Moore also revealed that following news of Meghan’s engagement to Prince Harry, she reached out to offer her congratulations — and learned that Meghan was a fan of her show!

“She was very kind and said that she really likes This Is Us. She watches the show, so that was pretty cool,” said the singer and actress. “She’s just a normal, regular girl.”
