Kate Middleton Twins with Princess Diana in Her Angelic One-Shoulder BAFTAs Gown

Kate Middleton‘s latest look may have been royally inspired.

Prince William and Kate hit the red carpet for the third year in a row at the annual BAFTA Awards (the British equivalent of the Oscars) on Sunday. For the event, Kate, 37, wore a white asymmetrical dress by Alexander McQueen – her wedding dress designer! – with floral embellishments on her left shoulder.

The angelic look was reminiscent of a similar dress worn by her late mother-in-law. Princess Diana also opted for a flowing white dress featuring a one-shoulder neckline during a 1991 visit to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, where she attended a charity gala ballet performance at The Municipal Theatre.

Kate’s outfit wasn’t the only reminder of Diana on the BAFTA red carpet. She paired her elegant gown with a a pair of her mother-in-law’s pearl and silver earrings. Diana wore the earrings in 1995 while accepting the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the United Celebral Palsy Foundation. Both Kate and Meghan Markle have pieces from Diana’s jewelry collection, which they wear as a special remembrance of the style icon.

The royal mom of three also sported a bracelet on loan from Queen Elizabeth known as the Queen’s Diamond Quatrefoil Bracelet.

Kate isn’t the only one whose style mirrors Princess Diana’s. Meghan opted for a double pop of color when she visited the town of Birkenhead, Merseyside, with Prince Harry last month. The Duchess of Sussex paired a purple Babaton by Aritizia dress under a red wrap coat by Sentaler, worn with a belt tied just above her growing baby bump.

The color combination is definitely unexpected, but it’s been done before. Harry’s mother Princess Diana blended the bold hues on several occasions, most memorably during a 1989 trip to Hong Kong when she paired a purple skirt with a red cardigan topped by a hat featuring both shades.

Diana also wore a one-shoulder evening gown featuring the eye-grabbing colors to a dinner in Bangkok, Thailand, in 1988.
