Princess Kate may have gone back to school on Friday, but her outfit was anything but by the book.

The slim silhouette, three-quarter length sleeves and the simple polka-dot print are go-to features for the royal, who accessorized with her favorite Fern L.K. Bennett nude pumps and her Mappin & Webb Empress earrings and pendant set. The cheery, summery dress even had a knee-to-thigh split revealing a subtle glimpse of leg. Retailing for $2,150, the Aimee stretch-woven dress by Paris-born Joseph Altuzarra is part of the designer’s current collection.

“I thought she looked elegant, radiant and fresh. As always, she looked incredibly regal, but the polka dot lent a sense of playfulness and fun,” Joseph Altuzarra tells PEOPLE.

Mostly staying loyal to British designers, Kate has looked across the pond for fashion cues of late, most recently choosing a pale pink design by Lela Rose during a two-day tour of Cornwall.

And Kate is in good company as Altuzarra, who founded his label back in 2008 and has since won the much-coveted Womenswear Designer of the Year at the CFDA awards in 2014, not only dresses Julianne Moore and Nicole Kidman, but Margot Robbie recently wore this exact dress for a magazine shoot. And Krysten Ritter wore the red version of the sexy dress in May.
