Smirnoff Vodka and Tributes to Diana: A Rare Peek Inside Prince William and Princess Kate's London Home
The public got a rare look inside the royal apartments at Kensington Palace
The royal family’s dinner with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama didn’t just offer a look at Prince George‘s adorable nightwear, it also gave the public a rare peek inside Prince William and Princess Kate‘s apartment.
The couple divides their time between their country home, Anmer Hall, and their 22-room royal apartments in Kensington Palace in London, which were previously inhabited by Queen Elizabeth II‘s glamorous sister Princess Margaret. Prince Harry also maintains a residence inside the Palace and the young royals turned mother Princess Diana‘s former apartments into their offices.
When the trio hosted the Obamas, they had a pre-dinner chat in Will and Kate’s sitting room, which was decorated in light, muted tones of blue, yellow and cream and softly lit by multiple lamps and candles.
Eagle-eyed royal fans likely noticed the photos set up on side-tables inside the room – one of which appears to be an iconic shot of the late Diana with Harry and William from 1994. Other photos included what looked like a shot of a teenaged (and dreamy) William and a photo of Kate’s parents from the 2011 royal wedding. The also appeared to be a shot of a family in front of the famed pyramids in Egypt, although it is hard to make out who exactly is in the photo. (Kate’s family briefly lived in nearby Jordan when she was very young.)
Also on display was the wooden rocking horse that the Obamas had given to George when he was born – which the little prince gamely hopped on to show off his to to his parents’ guests. (The rocking horse is made from oak trees from the White House grounds.) There was also a stuffed toy resting on an ottoman that looked very much like the Obamas’ dog, Bo, which they gave to George when his littler sister Princess Charlotte was born.

The royals were prepared for entertaining as a display of different liquors was set up on a side table inside the sitting room – including what appeared to be a bottle of Smirnoff vodka.
Will and Kate are also clearly fans of books – art and coffee table books were lined up alongside short bookcases on the side of the room, with ferns and flowers adding greenery to the cheerful atmosphere.
