Is Princess Kate Expecting Twins?
A bookmaker suspends betting after there is a rush of bets on Prince George getting siblings
That’s the bet of many who have made the wager on the 32-year-old royal having twins – which has sent odds tumbling.
The William Hill betting firm says it received about 200 bets on the arrival of twins, including what a spokesman calls “a significant gamble” that was made in York.
That one bet saw the odds plummet from 20:1 to 9:1 in just 75 minutes Monday evening.
The bookmaker says betting was finally halted when a series of new accounts were opened – including one from someone who which wanted a $325 bet, which would be more than 20 times the average bet on this kind of novelty market.
“We have had a load of unexpected bets including a large number of new accounts – there could well be something in this,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
The betting firm has also found that most people are counting on Kate, who has been suffering from severe pregnancy sickness but is hoping to return to royal duties next month, will call her baby Elizabeth if she has a girl. James tops the choice for a boy’s name.
