Queen Elizabeth, Prince William and Princess Kate hosted a reception to celebrate the start of 2017’s UK-India Year of Culture — and it was filled with lots of color and a few famous faces!
The Queen, dressed in a bright purple outfit for the occasion, greets current Foreign Secretary and former Mayor of London Boris Johnson, a guest at the reception.
Hard at work! A chef puts the finishing touches on canapes to be served at the event.
Princess Kate gives William a helping hand, while looking at photos, text and mementos on display at the reception — including a scarf given to the Queen by Mahatma Gandhi.
The Big Bang Theory star Kunal Nayyar attends the reception with his wife, model Neha Kapur. “The evening has just been overwhelming as I got to meet the Queen and to promote UK-Indian culture, which gives me so much pride,” Kapur said. “It is important to me as an Indian artist to promote Indian culture. I am Indian character on an American TV show, so I wear my
culture on my sleeve. So to be here is a part of that.”
On a staircase inside the palace, a group of dancers in traditional garb perform for the guests.
Anoushka Shankar, an Indian composer and sitar player, wears an Indian-inspired blush dress to the reception, which she attended with her husband, director Joe Wright.
Princess Kate goes full Cinderella for the event in a champagne-colored dress and sparkling shoes.
The outside of Buckingham Palace celebrated, too: A light projection in the shape of a peacock, India’s national bird, shined on the palace walls.
