After the Grammy winner received an MBE, signifying he’s a member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in recognition of his services to music and charity, on Thursday, he told reporters that the royal couple have not been in touch about serenading them for their first dance as husband and wife. But should they ask, Sheeran’s down for the gig. “Yeah, why not?!” he said. John Stillwell/PA Wire Yui Mok/PA Wire Prince Charles bestowed the MBE honor to Sheeran on behalf of his mother, Queen Elizabeth. Because he was not made a “Sir” (or knight), the ceremony did not involve the traditional sword tap on the shoulder. After the ceremony, Sheeran revealed that his grandfather was a fan of the monarchy and thought he would be proud that his grandson received such an honor. “Do you know what I love, my grandfather was a massive royalist, he had all the commemorative plates and stuff, and he died on this day four years ago, so it’s actually quite a nice full circle thing, I guess he’d be pretty proud,” he told reporters. The couple’s Kensington Palace spokesman said the soon-to-be newlyweds are “extremely grateful following the warm public response” to their engagement. “Windsor is a very special place for Prince Harry, and he and Ms. Markle have regularly spent time there during the last year,” said the spokesman. “They are delighted that the beautiful grounds of Windsor Castle will be where they begin their lives as a married couple.” Frank Augstein/AP/Shutterstock The couple are also said to want a wedding cake made from bananas, a source told The Telegraph. And the reason why has a romantic twist. In addition to Harry reportedly loving “anything with banana,” the fruit has also played a cheeky role in their relationship. https://www.instagram.com/p/BMQCFwbADob/ Just hours after their budding romance was confirmed in late October of last year, the former Suits actress posted a cryptic image of two cuddling bananas on her Instagram. Alongside the quirky romantic photo, she added the caption, “Sleep tight xx.” The unexpected banana post sent royal watchers into a frenzy over the new couple’s relationship. And now, just one year later, they’re planning to celebrate their big day with a banana cake — which would be a first for a royal wedding.
