Adele Beaming as She Receives Royal Honor

The singer accepts her MBE medal from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace

She has won Grammys, a Golden Globe and an Oscar (the latter two for her James Bond song “Skyfall”). But Thursday, Adele added a singularly British honor – an MBE medal – to the list.

The singer, 25, was full of smiles, and even allowed herself a hearty chuckle, upon receiving the medal – an honor reserved for exemplary British subjects – from Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.

Introduced in the palace ballroom as Miss Adele Adkins, she stepped forward sporting her trademark wide grin before having a short chat with Charles. He pinned the award for “services to music” on her black, long-sleeve Stella McCartney tea dress and shook her hand.

When her private moment was over, Adele stepped back, gave a little curtsey and, walking away, had a hearty laugh to herself.

MBE stands for Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. Also picking up the award Thursday were rocker P.J. Harvey, broadcaster Aled Jones and author Joanne Harris.

Charles, 65, was standing in for his mother Queen Elizabeth, 87, who has headed to her country home of Sandringham to prepare for her Christmas and New Year festivities.

In a statement released after the ceremony, Adele said, “It was an honour to be recognised and a very proud moment to be awarded alongside such wonderful and inspirational people. Very posh indeed.”
