Taraji P. Henson stars as a scheming ex-wife in Fox’s new drama, Empire but the 44-year-old actress says family is everything to her. She admits she loves girls’ nights, obsesses about House of Cards, and a few other things when she chatted with PEOPLE this week about “one last thing”

Last gift I received
My most fulfilling gift has been my son [Marcel, 20]. He’s working two jobs and is in school even though he doesn’t have to be. I planted a good seed in him.

Last girls’ night
I had friends over to break in my new Jacuzzi and fire pit. We made s’mores and drank wine. It was just great.

Last TV obsession
House of Cards! I watch it every day while I’m doing my cardio. I’m not a really political person, but I’ve gotten so into it. It’s brilliant.

Last time I baked
I flew my grandma out when I was nominated for an Emmy [in 2011 for the Lifetime movie Taken from Me: The Tiffany Rubin Story]. She makes this incredible pineapple upside-down cake. My whole family attempts to make it and fails. I tried to watch her make it, but I still can’t do it.
