Sticking to a diet and exercising more may be typical New Year’s resolutions, but at least two glamorous stars are thinking more globally for 2005. In Good Company star Scarlett Johansson pledged to get more active politically, especially as far as the Iraq war is concerned. “We have a choice to do something here, and I can only hope that our president will have the social consciousness to do the right thing,” she told us. “We do have a chance to do the right thing. We need to think about how we can help people, but make a decision before things escalate even further, to the detriment of both countries.” Party girl Lindsay Lohan also showed her caring side: “One of my resolutions is that I’ve wanted to open a charity for a while,” she said. “I want to go overseas to Cambodia if I can. I’d like to go over and just give back more. People don’t really take the time to do that. You need to go out and give to people.”
Who says you can’t be in two places at once? Model and Las Vegas star Molly Sims spent part of New Year’s Eve partying with Julia Stiles, former NFL star Marcus Allen and E! News Live’s Giuliana DePandi, among others, at media magnate Reagan Silber’s private fete at Don Quixote Studios in L.A. (For her part, Stiles hung out backstage with the band Rene Risque & the Art Lovers before making her way to the front row for their set.) Sims was also spotted at Ben Kitay Studios in Hollywood, counting down to the witching hour with Josh Hartnett, Mark McGrath, Entourage’s Adrian Grenier and actress Monet Mazur at L.A. event planner Ashlee Margolis’s bash.
Caught in the Act
• Jessica Simpson and hubby Nick Lachey, at the regular Monday “Secret Society” party at Miami hotspot BED, where, instead of regular table service, VIPs can party on a giant mattress (BED, get it?). In between lounging, cuddling and sipping cocktails together, Jessica chatted with her stylist, and Nick peeked over to watch the action on the adjacent mattress. Also spotted partying at the club: Derek Jeter.
• Anna Nicole Smith, dining at Simon Kitchen and Bar in the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas after catching Velvet Revolver’s New Year’s Day show. Drew Carey also had dinner at the restaurant the same night (separately), and spies tell us he left an extremely generous tip.
• Dave Chappelle, strolling down the street mid-afternoon in the Carroll Gardens section of Brooklyn.
