Ben Affleck got an early Christmas present when he recently dropped by Carson Daly’s late-night talk show, Last Call with Carson Daly: A picture and signed jersey from Boston Celtics star Larry Bird, personally autographed “to Ben” by the Birdman himself. After joking that Bird must not have known which “Ben” he was signing for – Ben Stiller, maybe Ben Stein? – the Paycheck star said he would return to Daly’s show. “I’ll come back if I get Larry stuff. I’ll be back every time. This is awesome. Thank you. I am actually quite moved …That’s the real Larry. My hero as a kid. I mean, that’s a big deal for me.” Along with being a major Red Sox fan, Affleck has always been a Celtics devotee – he even had the basketball team’s logo and Bird’s number, 33, painted on the basketball court at his home in Hollywood. Affleck recently sold that home to Bill Maher, but he told Daly the logo is still there, and he sees it whenever he drives by. Daly’s interview with Affleck is scheduled to air Dec. 26 on NBC.

When Daily Insider caught up with diet and fitness guru Denise Austin recently, we asked for her secrets to keeping holiday weight gain at bay:
What are your tips for keeping the pounds off?
The first thing that I tell everybody to do is just think about (exercising) 10 minutes a day. If you can do 10 minutes a day, it helps boost that metabolism. So I just wake up 10 minutes early to get a quick little workout in. So just don’t worry about the whole hardcore workout during the holidays. Just do 10 minutes and that will help you get going.

What do you recommend doing during those 10 minutes?
I would do squats. I would do walking lunges. I would do a lot of different ab exercises. And I’d do some arm exercises with 5- to 8-lb. weights. It’s all at home, all on the floor. There’s no equipment necessary. You don’t even need the weights. You can use resistance bands. You can get down and do push-ups. Do anything to work your muscles.

What about cardio?
You have to do cardio to burn fat from the whole body. I tell people, “Just go for a fast walk. When you’re shopping, make it your workout. Wear comfortable shoes. Try to balance your shopping bags so you don’t hurt your back.” And don’t stand by the food table at parties. I tell everybody to just get your drink and get away from the food table. You don’t realize how much you’re stuffing your face while you’re standing there.

Sarah Wynter, Hope Davis and Annabella Sciorra mingled, nibbled luxurious munchies, sipped Champagne and ogled diamonds as they hosted a cocktail party recently at Van Cleef & Arpel’s Fifth Avenue store to celebrate the launch of the jewelry company’s new Frivole Collection. “Ice, ice baby,” said 24 star Wynter. “I don’t actually own any of this (jewelry), but I will tomorrow.” Davis (who starred in the critically acclaimed American Splendor this year and just wrapped Proof with Gwyneth Paltrow) was dressed classically in a Nanette Lepore suit and 1940s-style Prada shoes; Sciorra was pure vamp in a black Dolce & Gabbana number and fishnet stockings; and Wynter looked fetching in a fur-trimmed Coach jacket. The event was also a benefit for UNICEF, with 5 percent of sales from the date of the party until Christmas going to the charity.
