The photos of Angelina Jolie and son Maddox, 2, are always cute, but have you ever wondered what type of mom she is – strict or indulgent, loving or remote? “It’s obvious that the focus of Angelina’s life is Maddox,” an observer at her assistant Holly Goline’s wedding last weekend in Jekyll Island, Ga., told us. (Jolie was a bridesmaid, and Maddox was ring bearer.) “She is so tender with him, it’s obvious that he’s her entire world.” Still, Jolie is no pushover. “Maddox is not a spoiled little kid,” our spy added. “It was interesting to watch Angelina deal with him. She doesn’t bargain with him, and she doesn’t let him get away with murder. It is very clear that she’s the mommy and he’s the kid, and he must do as he’s told.” Apparently Jolie teaches good behavior by example, too: “Angelina wasn’t any more trouble than the normal bridesmaids,” said our spy. “She was very friendly to the waiters and other help, which is rare for someone of her stature. She is the exact opposite of what you would expect – she’s funny, charming and down-to-earth. The way she acted, she could have just as well been any other soccer mom. A gorgeous soccer mom, of course.”

Stay Cool
For those wanting a wet and wild Memorial Day weekend, Jena Malone has a refreshing suggestion. “My older sister and I came up with ‘Hardcore Slip ‘N Slide,'” says the 19-year-old actress, currently starring as a high school student who gets pregnant in the satire Saved! “Basically, you get three to five (Wham-o) Slip ‘N Slides, line them all up on a hill, inflate each pool and put water on it. Then you start at the top and go down. It’s like 50 feet of fun.”

She’s Ba-ack
If you’ve had trouble filling the hours since the last season of The Anna Nicole Show, (and really, who hasn’t?), fear not: The newly re-slimmed Ms. Smith has been on the tiny half-Dutch, half-French island of St. Maarten since May 22, filming an upcoming episode. Scenes were shot at the Maho Reef Beach Resort on the Dutch side and at the clothing-optional Orient Bay Beach on the French side. Anna Nicole reportedly sustained a minor injury to one of her feet in a jet-skiing mishap last Sunday, but she was well enough to try her luck at the Casino Royale by Tuesday evening. That same night she also requested that popular nightspot Q Club open early to accommodate her, but the club declined, citing short notice.

Tears of a Clown
George Lopez may play a funnyman on his eponymous hit TV show, but that’s a far cry from his situation growing up. “It’s almost like it didn’t matter whether I existed or not,” he told us of his troubled childhood at a party this week in New York to celebrate his new book, Why You Crying. To this day, he doesn’t see his family, though they live nearby in Los Angeles. “I’m not close to my family at all,” he told us. “We never really had a relationship. I’m an only child so there’s really no family. We’re not speaking. It’s the way it is. “They’re not apologetic so I don’t want to go back and revisit them.” It doesn’t sound like a natural subject for a comedy routine, but Lopez turned it into just that – he’ll tell his story as part of his first live stand-up performance on Saturday on Showtime, in a special also called Why You Crying. “The special is almost the book come to life,” he said. “I talk about my childhood – but it’s funny.”
