Yell Fire!

Fresh from a tour of Iraq, Israel, and occupied Palestine, a fed-up Michael Franti lets rip the F-15 blues. Though revelations are few (this just in: War stinks), the veteran rabble-rouser folds his political sermons inside uplifting reggae-fired funk with help from Jamaican rhythm masters Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. On Yell Fire!, Folk-anthem earnestness surfaces (”Is Love Enough?”), but the motivational words of ”Everybody on a Move” prevail: ”I like my bass loudy, loudy, louder.” Who says protest songs can’t be both fiery and fun?
