Killer Heat

In Linda Fairstein’s 10th Alexandra Cooper thriller, the assistant DA is forced to navigate the small islands surrounding Manhattan to locate a serial killer obsessed with the military and women in uniform. It’s difficult to get wrapped up in Cooper’s investigation, mostly because the author interrupts the main plotline so often to share details about Cooper’s less engrossing cases. Plus, why would this savvy legal ace need to be briefed on the Son of Sam case? Though the book does pick up near the end, Killer Heat is basically a print version of a Law & Order episode: satisfying, but nothing new. C+
