Despite being a blues-rock trio, North Mississippi Allstars usually mix things up genre-wise. Singer-guitarist Luther Dickinson and drumming brother Cody are, after all, the spawn of producer Jim Dickinson — who’s worked with artists as sonically diverse as Aretha Franklin and the Replacements. Though Dad oversaw Hernando, too, NMA’s fifth studio release ends up being a no-nonsense collection of riff-based material, from ZZ Top-ish opener ”Shake” to the heavy-as-lead (and almost-as-heavy-as-Led) ”Rooster’s Blues.”
