Forget Mr. Darcy. True anglophiles fancy Hugh Dancy’s Daniel Deronda. The consummate Englishman, Deronda despises gambling, gives to charity, and rescues the dying. He suppresses his affections for married soul mate Gwendolen (Romola Garai) and troubled songstress Mirah (Jodhi May). He’s also unaware of his mysterious past: Deronda is a Jewish prophet. Adapted from George Eliot’s controversial Kabbalistic 1876 novel and directed by Emmy winner Tom Hooper (Elizabeth I), Deronda stuns throughout.
