No, President Donald Trump hasn’t changed his mind about bringing a pooch into his palace. In fact, he asserted this week that getting a White House pet would be “phony.”

Trump — whose disdain for pets is well documented — said during a campaign rally in El Paso, Texas, on Monday night that he won’t be adopting a dog during his time in the Oval Office, despite it being “good politically,” Time magazine reported.

While discussing drug-sniffing dogs, Trump told the gathered crowd, “I wouldn’t mind having one, honestly, but I don’t have any time.”

According to Time, the comment was met with cheers, prompting Trump to ask, “How would I look walking a dog on the White House lawn?”

But Trump asserted “I don’t feel good,” about becoming a pet owner, adding, “Feels a little phony, phony to me.”

The president, 72, claimed that he had been advised to get a dog for the White House — as most past presidents, including his immediate predecessor, have done — because “it’s good politically.”

Claimed Trump, “I said, ‘Look, that’s not the relationship I have with my people.’ ”

In a December 2017 article in The Atlantic about Vice President Mike Pence, an advisor claimed that Trump thinks pets are “low class.”

Further, the advisor alleged that Trump was “embarrassed” that the Pence family brought their pets with them to Washington, D.C.

And in Trump’s first wife Ivana Trump’s memoir, Raising Trump, she states, “Donald was not a dog fan,” according to CNN.

“When I told him I was bringing Chappy with me to New York, he said, ‘No,’ ” she wrote, CNN reported. ” ‘It’s me and Chappy or no one!’ I insisted, and that was that.”
