The Hamilton Theater in Ontario, Canada, has been on the receiving end of misplaced Twitter anger after the cast of Hamilton addressed Vice President-elect Mike Pence

No one ever accused Twitter of being reasonable.

The platform has been lit up since Friday with news about the Hamilton cast’s post-curtain call address to Vice President-elect Mike Pence in New York, though a different “Hamilton” has been bearing a share of unhappy Twitter users’ wrath.

Hamilton Theatre, Inc. is based in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. They’re currently running a musical version of The Toxic Avenger, but that distinction was apparently lost on Twitter over the weekend: “Dozens of angry Americans tagged the Hamilton theatre company’s Twitter account (@HamiltonTheatre) instead of the official Hamilton musical account (@HamiltonMusical),” Leonard told CBC News.

Hamilton is actually Ontario’s oldest musical theater company, which is a distinction that probably came as a cold comfort to Leonard as she waded through the vitriol on Twitter.

“You’re funneling it to the wrong person, guys,” she said. “All you need to do is check our profile to see we’re not even in the same country.”

But she sides with the cast of Hamilton and says there’s at least one silver lining to the mix-up. “If we helped take any of the heat off our friends on Broadway, we’re here to help.”
