Donald Trump is already poised to take over for President Barack Obama come January — just hours after his incredible sweep of the 2016 election.

A source close to the Trump family tells PEOPLE that “Donald called a bunch of people close to him this morning.”

In the chats, the source says of Trump: “He was totally calm and seems really ready to take this on.”

After a post-2 a.m. phone call concession from Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, Trump took the stage in New York City to declare victory.

“I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans, and this is so important to me. For those who have chosen not to support me in the past — of which there were a few people — I’m reaching out to you for your guidance and your help so we can unify our great country,” Trump said during his speech.

He added, “We will begin the urgent task of rebuilding our nation and renewing the American dream. I’ve spent my entire life in business looking at the untapped potential in projects and people all over the world. That is now what I want to do for our country.”

Trump, 70, swept important swing states Florida, Ohio, North Carolina and Wisconsin to command control of the electoral map and secure more than the 270 votes necessary for victory.

The victory rocked the world and defied the predictions of most pollsters, political pundits and correspondents — who had nearly all pointed to a sure Clinton win.
