On Tuesday at around 3:45 p.m., Thompson was seen jogging alongside the railroad tracks when he was hit by the passing train, witnesses told the Haltom City Police Department, according to a news release obtained by PEOPLE.

When police arrived on the scene, they found a pair of wireless earbuds, the news release states.
