Christmas lights, chestnuts roasting on an open fire, Instagram photos of dogs in sweaters: You know, it truly is the most wonderful time of the year.
As for the latter, achieving #nofilter perfection is as easy as deciding between a soy peppermint gingerbread latte and a second (or third, or fourth, or so on …) glass of eggnog.
Did we say easy? Sorry, what we’re trying to say is we’d rather deliver millions of iPads around the world in a flying car powered by nine reindeer.
Here at PEOPLE Pets, however, we believe in Christmas miracles. We also believe in dressing up our dogs in sweaters that make jingling noises while we chase them around the house.
Want to get the most double-taps this holiday season? You’ll need: one dog (model: this editor’s beloved pup, Chloe), a festive sweater (we chose a PetSmart top from the Bret Michaels collection), your pooch’s treat-of-choice … and tireless devotion to your Instagram followers.
Step 1: Bribe your dog
Hey buddy, how’s it going? Find any new laundry under my bed to chew today? Take any exciting naps? How’s your novel going? Here’s a snack because I love you and I care. And also because I’m about to pull a sweater over your head.
Step 2: Introduce your dog to the sweater
Buddy, you have to check out this sweater I got you. It’s soft and festive and it doesn’t clash with your fur color. (Note: Our model is not convinced said sweater is not a new and fascinating place to take a nap.)
Step 3: GO, GO, GO – PUT ON THE SWEATER
Now that I have your attention, buddy, I’m just going to gently, ever so gently, put your paws through these holes … okay, okay, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, but just one photo. Please? Buddy?
Step 4: Accessorize – then beg for mercy
