We Found Your Next Instagram Follow: Rescue Pup Sparkle Has Cool Eyes and a Penchant for Playtime

Once a stray living on the streets of Ohio, this adorable pooch — who is this week's #cutepic winner! — scored a ticket to Michigan thanks to the Canine Companions shelter of Clarkston, the rescue that would ultimately find her a home. "One night we were looking on Petfinder.com to adopt a dog because we had been wanting one for a while," says Megan, the dog's owner. "We came across Sparkle and I especially loved the fact that she was an Australian Shepherd mix (and the two different-colored eyes were pretty cool). So we sent in an application, honestly not expecting a reply. The next morning, the phone rang and it was Sparkle's shelter."

Megan and her mother Kim got stuck in traffic as they rushed over to meet the pooch, but, clearly, it was meant to be. "They let me hold her and as she licked my face, I fell in love with that little dog and may or may not have cried a bit," she recalls. "In that moment there was no way we were leaving without her."

The pup, who turns 4 on June 2, overcame a rough past — as a stray, she had parasites and mites — but when she found her forever family, Sparkle, well, began to shine. "After about six months with Sparkle we discovered she has quite the sense of humor," says Megan. "For example, sometimes she'll paw on the door to come in from outside, however, when we open the door she wags her tail and runs away, trying to get us to chase her."

The smart pup's hilarious quirks sometimes baffle her people. "Using hair products or small appliances has become quite the struggle in our house," says Megan. "She will be downstairs and if someone turns on a hair dryer upstairs, Sparkle will come sprinting at full speed up the stairs and bark at the hair dryer, trying to get us to chase her with it."

This girl just wants to have fun. "Sparkle's absolute favorite thing to do would be chasing these little toy mechanical hamsters called Zhu Zhu Pets," says Megan. "She barks at them and then picks them up and drops them on the ground. She also loves to stretch her paws out and slide them across the floor. There's nothing that she'd rather do."

Sparkle's family loves to support Canine Companions, since the shelter is the reason the dog came into their lives. Whenever they bring in donations, Sparkle tags along, too. "If we had to choose a motto for Sparkle," Megan adds, "it would probably be, 'You don't need to know a dog's breed to know that they're pretty perfect.' "
