You’ll learn this pretty quickly about Kona (@kona_b_miss_licky on Instagram), the kisses are always coming! “She is the happiest dog,” says her owner Tammy Peggau of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. “She is soooo affectionate. She gives endless kisses and if you let her she will sit and lick you forever.”
The 2-year-old pup — who is this week’s #cutepic winner! — is really good at getting herself noticed. “It’s funny, I say she gives so many kisses that her tongue should have fallen off by now,” Peggau adds. “And she always has to be sitting on you or touching you. If you ignore her she will purposely try to get your attention until she gets it.”
Peggau and her husband, Rod, got Kona as companion for their dog Bane. “I noticed Bane would sit at the front door staring out the window waiting for him to get home from work every single day. So I convinced [Rod] that Bane needed a friend,” she says. “That same day we happened to pull up Craigslist and there was a listing of puppies on the other side of town that needed homes. So we drove right over and she was the smallest one, and 1 of only 2 girls out of the 11. We just knew we wanted her.”
Despite being in “rough shape,” with fleas and bites all over her (“assuming from her bigger brothers and sister,” she says), Kona came home. “We fell in love. And Bane loved her almost immediately too!” Peggau says.
“She has a huge personality,” says Peggau. “And she never leaves my side (unless her dad calls her), but I say ‘she’s like my shadow or my third leg’ because she is always there. I don’t mind one bit because she is the best!”
Kona isn’t all kisses, she’s also quite happy taking in a film to pass the time. “She will stop everything she is doing and stare at the screen,” she says. “Her favorite movie is The Secret Life of Pets. She will sit and watch the WHOLE movie. Oh, and she really enjoys the Puppy Bowl each year!”
Stuffed lions are Kona’s go-to toy and this clever girl picks out the same one whenever she goes to the store. “Every time I taker her to the pet store I let her pick out one toy,” says Peggau. “I don’t guide her at all, I just let her sniff around until she pulls one off the rack or shelf. EVERY single time she finds this same lion! Its amazing.”
Those lions, they don’t last long. “So we go through those pretty quickly after it explodes at home,” she says, referring to Kona tearing them apart. “But there are quite a few deflated lions around the house.”
