A long list of officers assisted in the rescue of Petey, who was snatched during a home invasion

A dog named Petey was stolen during a home invasion last month and on Tuesday the officers who helped bring him home were honored.

Thieves snatched several items during the burglary which took place on May 7, according to a press release from the Fort Worth Police Department, including something irreplaceable: the 4-year-old collie/heeler mix.

While investigating, the department’s West Division detectives and officers from the Tactical Response to Apartment Crime team were led to a residence on Columbus Avenue.

When they were speaking with the homeowner and showing him a picture of the stolen dog, guess who came trotting by? Petey, who walked through the screen door from inside the house.

The dog was immediately recognized and taken into custody, the release says, and officers left with the pup and an admission from one of the people who committed the burglary (an arrest warrant is being drafted).

A Facebook video of Petey’s reunion with his owners is what great homecomings are made of. As for the officers who made it happen, they were recognized at City Hall on Tuesday for helping the dog get home.
