Zoey Chandler never gave up hope that Taffy survived.

In the hours that followed the fire that engulfed her Norfolk, Virginia, home on Saturday, Chandler searched for the little Chihuahua, hoping she’d find her safe and sound. Just after 10 a.m. on Sunday, her wish came true: the pup was alive and back where she needed to be, in her owner’s arms.

“Oh my God, baby. I thought I lost you,” Chandler said to her dog Taffy in the video of their reunion, captured by WAVY News. “I lost everything, but I got my baby … I’ve been looking for my dog all morning, and I thought she got caught up in the fire, but I didn’t give up. I walked high and low for my dog.”

Thankfully, no one was hurt in the blaze that left Chandler and eight other adults and two children, in four separate apartments, without a home for the foreseeable future, according to WAVY. Although the New Year has been tough for Chandler and so many others, she’s looking forward to the future.

“Thank you, God, for finding my dog,” Chandler continued. “I might not have everything, but I do have my life. So I guess this is a new beginning for me.”
