To BigBird, Jeffrey is Dad.

Jeffrey Condon is the safari camp manager who took the orphaned baby pelican under his wing when he was separated from his flock during a storm in Tanzania, according to Stuff.co.nz.

Condon taught the bird how to fly by running up and down the beach like a bird. A video of it became a viral sensation last year, garnering more than 5 million views on YouTube.

But flying isn’t all that BigBird needed to learn. In this amazing GoPro video, the bird learns what it takes to be a fisherman and makes us feel all the feels in the process.

“It was just like having a pet dog,” Condon, who has since moved from Tanzania, says of his unique friendship with the bird. “He would wander around, exploring a bit, but always came back.”

Though Condon hoped teaching his feathered friend these skills would inspire him to once again join a flock, Stuff.co.nz says BigBird is quite happy living his life like a sea dog, rubbing elbows with tourists who come for the chimpanzees but leave talking about BigBird.

“All people talked about around the dinner table was the bird,” Condon said. “The pelican was usually there when we were having drinks or dinner – he’s never far away. He loves attention.”
