Born on December 26, the yet-to-be-named baby is just happy doing his thing at Whipsnade Zoo

He looks like a too-perfect special effects creation for a movie, but nope, he’s real. Behold the pygmy hippo born to England’s Whipsnade Zoo on December 26.

With skin like a wet water balloon, the little guy is romping about his enclosure and slowly taking in the world around him. He currently weighs around 22 pounds. Adult pygmy hippos can weigh between 400 and 600 lbs.

Cuteness aside – a major highlight is the yawn at the 38-second mark – the birth is crucial to the preservation of the pygmy hippo species. As zookeeper Steve White explains, captive male hippos are rare. Fewer than 3,000 members of the species are thought to exist in the wild.
