Forget Snakes on a Plane, Snakes on a Porch is much more terrifying!

An Eastern brown snake, considered the world’s second most venomous land snake, nearly brushed elbows with one unsuspecting dog owner in Gold Coast, Australia – but thanks to a concerned canine, the man avoided injury while relaxing on his porch.

Watch the scene in this YouTube video; it has been viewed over 1 million times since it was shared on Jan. 31.

“Had a really close encounter with a brown snake today,” says the caption, written by Drew S. “After watching the footage on the security cam it looks like our dog stopped it going inside and if it wasn’t for her I would have probably kept looking at my phone.”

In the clip, the man can be seen pounding away on his phone before the dog runs over to alert him to the snake slithering right under his feet. (These are the things nightmares are made of, people.)

Adds the owner, “I think we were both a bit lucky today.”
