The cat is now under the care of the Humane Society of Missouri

A quick-thinking cat is alive thanks to a litter box.

The historic and deadly floods that have recently inundated Missouri left one feline in Fenton stranded in a strange spot, according to KTVI. The Humane Society of Missouri has been making the rounds in affected areas to rescue pets that got stuck when the devastating flood waters started to pour in.

Among the cats found by one of the rescue groups, was a kitty who rode out the worst of the weather by sitting in her litter box. Her saviors believe that the cat’s instinct to stick inside her floating, plastic potty helped save the animal’s life.

The Humane Society removed the cat from her flooded home and is working to care for the pet and find her family.
