Spencer the three-legged rescue pup has had quite a stretch of tough luck, but he’s been fortunate enough to meet caring people who have treated and rooted for him along the long road to recovery.
Hailing from Alabama, the sweet black puppy was only about 6 months old when he arrived at Muddy Paws Rescue in New York City last fall. Originally, Spencer had to have one of his back legs amputated after he was hit by a car and found on the side of the road when he was only 5 months old.
The vet soon discovered that his remaining back leg also needed intensive femoral head ostectomy (FHO) surgery. After this setback, he was fitted for a special cart which put him on wheels for a recovery period through the winter.
Now, this adorable and spirited little fighter is in intensive physical therapy, including hydrotherapy. As you can see in the video above, he’s getting stronger every day, his hard rehab work is paying off and, hopefully, he can soon enjoy just being a puppy again.
Although he’s only a young pup, Spencer’s extensive medical care has already run up a trail of medical bills for the rescue with an estimated total of $10,000. While Spencer has an incredible foster mom who has devoted so much time and special care on his behalf, this wonder pup will soon be on the search for a forever home.

In the meantime, Spencer’s rescue is hoping that a fundraising campaign in his honor will help cover some of this special needs pup’s medical costs. All donations to Muddy Paws are tax deductible and will go towards helping Spencer and pups like him get back on their paws again.
