Zoo Atlanta’s giant panda Mei Lan, who was born in 2006 and thought to be female, is actually a male. Testes on pandas don’t descend until they’re 3 years old. –Atlanta Journal-Constitution

What might be the world’s smallest egg made its public debut this week in West Virginia. A Raleigh County farmer collected the egg in July in his chicken coop. It’s the size of a dime. –Charleston Daily Mail

Another world record, but this time for a snake that’s so large it takes 15 people to hold her. Medusa, who weighs 300 lbs. and may be the world’s largest snake in captivity, is about to get a visit from the Guinness Book of World Records. –Daily Mail

Kelly Clarkson says her home is a rescue ranch because she has 50 animals that she has taken in because they were sick or abandoned. Thirty of them are dogs, but there are also horses, goats and pigs. –Contact Music

A warming climate makes animals smaller, reducing adult body mass in cold-blooded species by 2.5 percent. A recent study of copepods found that the animals matured to adulthood faster in a hotter climate, which slowed their growth. –NewScientist
