Seven years after her cat went missing from her Phoenix home, Tricia Osterman was reunited with feline Sophia thanks to the efforts of the San Diego Humane Society. The cat was turned over after the family who was looking after it could no longer take care of her, and the Humane Society was able to locate Osterman after discovering Sophia’s microchip. –

Following the death of her five cats, Fran Bailey had life-size replicas of them tattooed onto her back. “A lot of people who have lost pets can relate to it,” she said of her ink, which depicts felines Tinky, Woody, Mr. Brush, Mr. Spock and Bella. –The Mirror

A pet bird saved the life of an Ohio resident from a house fire that claimed the lives of a dog and several cats when it woke him up. Both the man and the bird survived the blaze. –

A Vermont bus driver who operates a vehicle for a dog day care service sustained burns to his hands, head and back while trying to rescue animals from the vehicle after it caught fire. One dog was saved, though another was lost to the fire. –AP
