Game on! Animal Planet’s answer to the Super Bowl, the Puppy Bowl, will now include hedgehogs on the sidelines as cheerleaders. The squee-inducing pets will join the kittens, hamsters, bird and, of course, puppies that already make the annual event so aww-dorable. –Vulture

Does the Kraken exist after all? A Japanese-led team of scientists have captured the world’s first live pictures of a giant squid. The snapshots show the 10 ft.-long cephalopod, which the zoologist leading the team described as “rather lonely.” –New York Daily News

An Australian woman who woke up to the sound of her cat hissing found a surprising – and slimy! – house guest in her 2-year-old daughter’s bedroom: a 6-ft. python, which was wrapped three times around the young girl’s arm. The girl has since been treated and released from a local hospital. –Yahoo! News

It’s a happy ending for a California family, who are back home with their cat Vanilla after the feline went missing more than eight years ago and found a new home with an elderly man. After the cat was taken in by Animal Control, his microchip revealed the contact information for his original owners. –Huffington Post
