A new startup site,, aims to bring together dog owners and their pets for playdates in New York. “Dogs are a great icebreaker,” said founder Michael Chiang, who believes the site has uses for human connection as well. “Using a website like ours, you find new relationships, new friends, so definitely the human aspect of it is very strong.” –WPIX 11

By studying the brain scans of dogs, scientists hope to acquire more accurate data about the concept of cognition, and whether dogs do in fact relate to humans. “Are we all just a pack to them? What part of the brain represents humans and other dogs? It could be sound, or scent, or any of those modalities,” said neuroscientist Greg Berns. –Wired

The dog food being recalled by Diamond Pet Foods has led to salmonella infections in 14 people. Salmonella can be spread through the handling of the contaminated food or by touching pets’s droppings. –Wall Street Journal
