Is driving with your pet in the car as dangerous as texting behind the wheel? The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety says yes. AAA conducted a survey along with pet product company Kurgo, and of the 80 percent of people who have said they drive with their pets, only 17 percent used a restraint system for them. –CBS News

Being hit by bird poop is terrible for most, but for one Australian man, it might have been fatal. Craig Taylor, seeking shelter from rain under an awning, was crushed and killed after the awning collapsed. The weight of pigeon droppings from the awning may have caused it to fall. –Courier Mail

Seven puppies traveling in the cargo hold of an American Airlines jet may have died from excessive heat, according to a company spokesperson. The puppies may have also had health issues, as 17 other dogs survived the same flight. –AP

Wyclef Jean, who is running for President of Haiti, has come under fire for use of funds that came through his charity, Yele Haiti. He used $250,000 to pay for a carnival float, part of which included a live lion that was fed with sirloin steaks. –New York Times via Gawker

A new lawsuit filed on Monday says that Chicago’s Community High School and the Special Olympics have barred student Jennifer Youngwith from playing basketball with her service dog, Simba, who carries a 4-lb. oxygen tank that she needs. The Special Olympics has said that having the dog on the court during a game is “not appropriate.” –WBBM News Radio 780
