As a result of two earthquakes that hit Turkey’s Van City in 2011, cats are believed to have sustained psychological trauma that is causing them to attempt suicide. “They are getting fidgety by remaining in confined areas for a long time, and they are throwing themselves out in order to free themselves,” said professor Abuzer Tas, a lecturer at the Faculty of Veterinary Studies of Van’s Century University. –News.Am

A dog’s personality may not be as directly related to its owner as previously thought, a new study finds. Having owners rate their own aggressiveness and the perceived aggressiveness of dog breeds, the study found that those who preferred aggressive dogs also scored higher in conscientiousness. –Wall Street Journal

Authorities are investigating a series of horse escapes from the same Ohio farm where nearly 50 exotic animals were let out of their cages in October 2011. “We’re not using this as a back door to get in and check on the exotic animals,” said Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz. “We are monitoring this situation.” –10 TV

An Iowa man was charged with a DUI after authorities were called in to check up on his car, which was parked outside of a bar with a zebra and a parrot in the front seat. Upon attempting to drive away, the man tested for nearly twice the legal blood alcohol limit, but maintained his animal companions go with him everywhere and were in no danger. –ABC News

A mountain lion was shot and killed after making its way into a Santa Monica, Calif., courtyard from the nearby mountains. When attempts to tranquilize the animal failed, it was put down as a measure of public safety. –Los Angeles Times
