The tony boutique/retreat is a haven for New York City pet owners

It’s true: New York City has a pretty posh reputation, and New York City pups are just the same. Manhattan dogs go to daycare, dress up for Halloween parades, even meet celebrities like Carrie Underwood and Hilary Swank! With all this fanciness going on, there has to be a doggie boutique that exudes just as much class, right?

Enter The Urban Canis, a new spot in the trendy SoHo neighborhood that’s not only a shop, but a “retreat” offering grooming and spa services, daycare, puppy kindergarten, and next year, doggie summer camp (um, can we sign up?). The pretty spot has an indoor dog park and on-site boarding, too. (Don’t worry cats, there’s a spa for you, as well.)

But the real draw of this urban oasis is the pet gear, of course! Dainty sweaters transform your dog from a fuzzball into a supermodel (love the holiday gingerbread), and each item is hand-selected by the owners – and approved by their dogs, Yorkie Pink and Affen Pinscher Floyd.

For the holidays, the staff is rolling out a line of customizable gift baskets, which include the choice of one Harry Barker toy, a shampoo-conditioner set from Aroma Paws and one Urban Canis brand sweater, hand-knit in Italy ($60 for a $120 value). For non-New Yorkers, phone orders are available. We know you’re fancy, too!
