More than three months after his split from Nina Dobrev, The Vampire Diaries’s Ian Somerhalder seems to have fallen hard – for his new rescue dog.

The actor, 34, introduced his “new girl” over Instagram on Monday, and explained how she unexpectedly came into his life.

“Rescued from traffic near the Vampire Diaries stages just a few hours ago,” he wrote, describing the pup as “so smart, so beautiful & charming – all a man could ask for in a girl.”

A self-described cat man, Somerhalder’s three felines are probably adjusting to their newest sibling, whom the actor named Nietzsche, like the German philosopher. But for the sexy star himself, there’s no doubt he and his new furry friend are “so happy together.” RELATED: Ian Somerhalder & Nina Dobrev Make Emergency Run to Cat Hospital
