The 13 Luckiest Pets in the World
MAC THE DOG
Call him a walking miracle! After falling 40 ft. off a cliff in the U.K.’s Isle of Wight, the golden retriever was recovered three hours later with two broken legs, a bruised pelvis, a collapsed lung – and his life.
FROSTY THE CAT
This determined kitty made it out of a deep-freeze alive after two days in -28-degree temps, though he lost both ears and his tail to frostbite.
EDITH THE DOG
Firefighters had to free then-2-week-old collie-spaniel-mix Edith from her owner’s wine rack, after she got her head stuck in a circular opening. Though she was “very quiet” when found, the pup walked away without injuries.
LUCKY THE CAT
This feline lived up to his name after he plunged 26 stories from an open window and landed safely on a balcony below. “That’s the miraculous thing about Lucky,” his owner said. “He has been [lucky] since we got him.”
LUCKY THE COW
It took a tractor to pull the 1,500-lb. cow from a 60-ft.-deep scrap metal pit after the animal reached a little too far for a nibble of grass. Remarkably, the 2-year-old bovine was expected to make a full recovery.
JACK THE DOG
Just like Mac, Jack went tumbling down a steep cliff while chasing a rascally rabbit. Rescuers couldn’t get to him immediately – the weather was too rough – but he was saved a day later, unscathed.
BALTIC THE DOG
Discovered floating alone on ice in the Baltic Sea, this pooch was recovered by scientists performing an oceanographic survey on the chilly waters. He was later adopted by one of his rescuers.
VERNON THE DOG
Plucked from the flooded Los Angeles River during a storm, Vernon had no vital signs when he was brought to dry land. But the 6-year-old bounced back and was reunited with his elderly owner.
STICKY THE CAT
Found abandoned and bound by duct tape, Sticky had to be sedated so workers could remove the layers of sticky stuff. But her story had a happy ending: She was adopted, and a suspect arrested.
VALENTINE THE CAT
Valentine, a stray, wandered her New Jersey neighborhood for nearly a week with a dart in her eye. An observant resident called animal control and, luckily, the cat fell into the hands of a vet who stitched her up.
SIRUS THE DOG
A hero by all accounts, the German shepherd took three bullets for his family when intruders tried to knock down the door of their Ohio home. “He is an angel,” his owner told PEOPLEPets.com. “He saved our lives.”
TEBOW THE CAT
Found in the bed of an Iowa family’s pickup truck, it’s presumed that Tebow hitched a ride from a town almost 80 miles away. Assumed to be a stray, the tiny kitty took to her rescuers – and her furry sibling, yellow Lab Maddie.
CAINE THE DOG
When Caine, a 2-year-old boxer/Rhodesian ridgeback mix, lost his tongue in a paper shredder on New Year’s Day, emergency vets suggested euthanasia. But the dog persevered, learning to eat and drink from a feeding tube and oral syringe.
