It wasn’t with a gopher, and the varmint wasn’t digging tunnels underneath the greens. But Bill Murray had another close golf-course encounter with a furry creature.
The actor, who waged a losing battle with a course-crunching rodent in Caddyshack, teamed up with golfer D.A. Points to win the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on Sunday. It was the first tournament win for Murray, an avid player who frequently participates in pro-am events.
“It’s really fun to win,” Murray told CBS. “It’s pretty easy to have fun here. I felt like my mind and body had left, I didn’t even know how to behave.”
On Friday, the actor had the kind of confusing moment he described. Murray stood on the tee box at the third hole at Pebble Beach in California when a deer came to crash the party. While the actor watched, looking amused, the animal sprung over the grass and then went on its way. While Murray, whose Caddyshack character dreamed of winning golf’s Masters, didn’t credit the victory to the deer, two days later he was holding the glass trophy in his hands. So he’s got that going for him, which is nice!
