When Sherri Shepherd got engaged on Dec. 26, her pooch was standing by in a Santa hat and beard as her boyfriend Lamar Sally popped the question at his L.A. home. Now, as she gets ready to walk down the aisle this summer (she plans to lose 30 lbs. before the big day), will her pooch stand by as a witness?

“I think my family would have a fit if I had the dog involved in the wedding,” the actress told on Friday. “But my son will. My son is walking me down the aisle.”

Five-year-old Jeffrey, Shepherd’s son with ex-husband Jeff Tarpley, will give her away to Sally, a TV writer, when they exchange vows before family and friends.

“Jeffrey will be taking my hand and putting it into Sal’s,” she said. “And he’s going to be saying, ‘Are you going to protect my Mommy and me?’ “

The 30 Rock star and View cohost expects the whole ceremony will be very emotional, especially for her. “I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep my eyelashes on,” she said. “I’ll be crying so hard.”
